System of a Down are back, with a new album which is in stores now.
"B.Y.O.B", Which I believe means "Bring Your Own Bombs", was the first single released from the album. It has deep meaning, with great lines like "Why don't presidents fight the war", "we all live in a facist nation", along with a catchy beat.
"B.Y.O.B" is one of the 11 songs (including the intro) that make up Mezmerize. The band has also released the cover artwork for Mezmerize, which was painted by Vartan Malakian, father of guitarist/vocalist Daron Malakian.

Mesmerize is the first in what's expected to be a two pronged album release for 2005, a typically intense thrash metal set with deep, sociopolitical undertones. This time SOAD are angry about American materialism (Lost In Hollywood), corporate/primal power (Cigaro) and a whole host of other moral issues. And they carry this off without it encroaching on the more fun aspect of their sound, namely the music.
Weird time signatures, raw aggressive lyrics, bizarre melodies going off on strange, but always captivating, tangents; System Of A Down are loud but unlike anything else currently spewing over the world's rock scene, for which you have to admire them. |
