I think perhaps Christina turning into a porn star (not that I am complaining ;) has formed a cloud around Britney saying whatever I might do, look what Cristina is doing. But the fact is still there that In the Zone is an outlet for Britney’s new found full on sexuality, especially if you happen to check out any of the videos that go with the tracks.
The music is good though, the bar for the pop genre has really begun to raise with Avril Lavigne bringing out Under My Skin and both REM and the Corrs bringing out greatest hits. However In the Zone was before all these releases and still manages to hold its own with the tuff competition, it’s a quality album.
Despite the new found image of Britney though it is perhaps this that also damages the album. Britney isn’t a Maxim cover girl in most people’s minds though and this new album while finding a new fan base could be burning an old one. That is social commentary though and this is a review.
Should you buy it? Well it is a pretty sticky album; you have to find your personal tastes for what tracks you will get stuck in your mind though I suspect Everytime will be in there, its classic Britney. The quality and life are good though although not all inspiring. Not every album has to be though, and this is solid, if you like Britney stick it on your shortlist. |
